Ghosts Of Halloween Past

Thousands or more like millions of children are going door to door tonight in search of the best candies they can find. Teens across America are going to parties their parents aren’t aware of. Girls dress up in provocative costumes not wanting men to undress them with their eyes. Men go around undressing slutty woman with their eyes.

This used to be my favorite holiday. It was actually the only holiday that I cared about celebrating. Not even Christmas came close. But halloween stood out like a sore thumb all year long. What’s there not to love? Candy, scary movies, cold weather in some weird association, and dressing up and seeing everyone’s creativity.

Growing up I craved being able to celebrate it. It wasn’t until I was 20 years old that I actually finally celebrated Halloween. I was a good Christian boy, but then I walked over to the dark side. Pun intended.

I was Peter Pan. And honestly, it was one of the best nights I’ve had. I felt like a kid again. Pun game strong today. The year after that I didn’t dress up but I did go to a party. I had fun but wasn’t that exciting. Two years ago I didn’t do anything at all because I was in a huge hole of depression. Last year, I took a shift on my day off to work on Halloween because I didn’t want to be sad that I didn’t have plans.

What am I doing this Halloween? Sitting at home writing this post. Even though I want to be out there, doing stuff, partying, and just getting crazy. But even though I tell myself if you aren’t happy then change yourself. But the thing is that I am happy. I’ve changed, and it’s ok, I miss things but it doesn’t make me miserable.

Just another Halloween.

Friendless Friday Night

I sit on my bed while I listen to soft R&B music. My mother is in her room tired from the walk we took earlier. I’ve taken two shots of vodka from one of the four bottles I hide in my closet. They’ve been collecting dust ever since I stopped clubbing and going out to parties. Today I figured I’d do some lite dusting.

Three months ago I bought a ticket for a rave (music EDM festival). Four hours ago I drove one of my best friends along with one of his friends with the ticket I had purchased for myself. Only I didn’t go in with my ticket. His friend did.

After having a huge fight with the friend who invited me to the rave we broke up the friendship and I was set to go alone. But my other friend swooped in and bought a ticket to go with me. Then my moms surgery came out of the blue and there was no way I’d leave her alone. So I gave my ticket to him to invite someone so he wouldn’t go alone.

Things change so much in such a short period of time. I really wish I could have gone. It would have been a blast. But maybe there will be a next time. Or maybe there won’t be. Who knows.

So many things have happened this year and it’s not even the end yet. I used to have a boring life and I thought I hated it. Now I cherish those endless nights of boredom. Those friendless Friday nights.

But at the same time I am also thank full for experiencing it all.

Last Wednesday I met up with a friend I hadn’t seen in a while. We had a long four hour talk. She’s doing well, I’m doing ok. Life moves on weather you are in or out of people’s life’s.

I told her how I don’t know where I stand on my sexuality. Am I gay? That’s what I thought my whole life. Am I bi? I’ve fallen for the prettiest girl in my eyes. It’s another who knows situation. But maybe we’ll find out soon.

Now, I’ll get comfortable in my bed as I take my last shot of the night and sleep a good nights sleep and wake up for what ever life has in store for me for the rest of the year.

Destiny, Fate, Or What Ever You Want To Call

Do you believe in fate? How about destiny? Many people believe that our lives are already planned out for us by a higher power and we are just following the path laid before us, are you one of them?

“Everything happens for a reason.”

This expression is very known. But what does it actually mean? Is it a positive expression? “Hey I found this 100 dollar bill on the ground, I really needed it, everything happens for a reason.”

Or maybe you happen to get a flat tire on the freeway, “well everything happens for a reason Susan.” That’s more negative, you see?

And to be completely honest I’ve heard it both used in a positive way and a negative way. But what happens when something happens so out of the blue that you don’t even know if it’s a good or bad thing?

Well maybe I’m going way to far out there on this and being too over dramatic. Depends how you look at things. Let me give you a little bit of a back story.

Since I’ve quit the gym I’ve been going to the local park to walk around. I’ve also been taking my mom since the doctors recommended her to exercise more as well.

My local park is no ordinary park, no no. There is also a library and a community center there as well. So picture this. There are people walking there dogs, kids playing on the play ground, and there are little league games going on in distant baseball fields.

This is where, destiny, fate, or what ever you want to call it comes into place. I’m walking on the side walk around the whole proximity of the park. I’d say it’s about a mile around.

I’m walking past the community center parking lot and this white car facing the side walk honks at me. At first I don’t pay attention. Why should I? I’m minding my own business waking on the side walk unbothered by everyone and everything else.

But then, they honk again and that’s when I turn. It was like a scene of a movie. An old friend happened to park in the exact same parking spot that I would be walking right in front of. What would be the chances? I haven’t seen her in maybe more than two months. And honestly not because I didn’t want to. I’ve been trying to change my lifestyle remember?

Get this, she was there because her moms friends daughter was having a quince party. That’s a huge blow out party in Latin culture when a girl turns fifteen. Sort of like a sweet sixteen.

She didn’t have to go to that party. But she was there. Parking her car exactly where and when I was walking. I really didn’t feel like walking at all. (I had just eaten Chinese food and felt more like sleeping). But there I was walking right in front of where she happened to park.

Coincidence? Fate? Destiny? What if I had to tie my shoe? I would have missed her. What if one, only one, of the traffic lights she had gone through was red instead of green? She would have missed me. I would have been on the other side of the park.

Maybe I’ve been looking into this way too much, I have had a lot of time on my hands today. But nonetheless this is just one of those moments in life that make you say wtf. Deep down I know it was a sign, I don’t know what sign, but it was a sign.

The Ugly Part Of Friendship

Friendship is like a piece of paper. It’s nice when it’s new. The possibilities are endless to what you can write. It’s a blank canvas of endless adventures and excitement. It’s clean, untouched, and unbothered. Sometimes it almost feels like there is no ending.

But, crumble that paper up in a ball. Or grab a pen and pierce the paper fiercely with anger. Wet it and throw it around some. Step on it. Make little cuts along the edges.

Now, try to unfold it. Try to make it as flat and as smooth as it once was. Try to make it new again. Try to read the words that were once on that paper now filled with holes. Is it still wet? Is it sticking to itself? Are the blue lines that separated sentences blurred and hard to tell apart? Is it a struggle just figure out what to do with the paper? Is there anything else that can be done to save it or is it just a lost cause?

In the same way, friendship can go through so many challenges and in the end it will never be a clean piece of paper. It’s fragile, damaged, barley holding together, and it’s hard to make out what once was. Will it ever be the same once it has gone through so many obstacles? All the mistrust, hate, deceiving, lying, and deception?

That’s the ugly part of friendship. Tell me, is it really worth it, to keep this friendship alive?

Quit The Gym

What would you do to have the best body ever? How much time would you be willing to invest to have the greatest body you could ever have? How much money would you be willing to spend to get that body?

No, this isn’t an ad for something and I’m not selling any pills that will magically make you into that cover girl or get you that surfer dude’s body. These are just some of the questions I asked myself before I decided to quit the gym.

Yes, I quit the gym. I know in previous posts I was so eager to go back and be hit the gym hard and get toned and back into shape. But the thing is, I wasn’t going to do it for myself.

See, all my life I’ve wanted to be someone else. In the sense that I’ve always wanted to be more social, more out there, louder, and more confident. And this summer that was who I was. But where was all of that coming from? Where was my confidence coming from? From my body.

I thought that by looking good, people were generally going to accept me, and I live off of being accepted. Plus in my mind I always considered myself as fat. I’m not fat or obese. I’m only fifteen pounds over what I should actually weigh. And that’s not entirely bad.

This society made me think that in order to be accepted I have to be a certain size or shape. Even weight! I always felt that people would look at me like I was different, even to the point of thinking they would see me as ugly and detestable.

And a part of me, the very superficial part of me, thought that by having a good body I was going to be able to get the sexual attention I wanted. And I’m not going to lie, I got it. It was fun. It was great. But it wasn’t for me. The people who would be with me only wanted to be with me because they liked what they saw, and that’s not bad, but that’s all they saw. They never saw me. They didn’t want to get to know me. They just wanted my body. *insert what everyone is thinking here* (Get over yourself will you).

But I came to a conclusion the other day. My body should not be the reason I have friends, or relationships, or even where my confidence should come from. I am so much more than my body. So what if I gained a little weight? We all go through a rough patch with our bodies. I love food to much to say no to it.

On the other hand, I’m not saying I’m going to be consuming calories like the government consumes your taxes. No. Running is one of the most anti stress tools that I have ever found to help me. And I’ve always enjoyed it.

Do I need a gym for it? No there are parks. Do I need to pay for them? No, the government already takes my money to keep them nice and pretty. Will I be going crazy trying to get that Calvin Klein looking body? No, for once in my life I’m content with my body. And for once in my life I don’t need to be accepted by anyone to be happy. Because happiness does not come form other people. Or the acceptance of them. If they don’t like you why be around them? Happiness doesn’t come from them. It comes from within. I dare you to go find it.

For Anyone Who Has A Family Member Out There Going Through The Stages Of Breast Cancer

It’s pumpkin spice season everywhere again from lattes to ice cream. Along with that, stores once again bring out Christmas trees in mid October to force you to believe that if you don’t have a Christmas tree, is it really Christmas?

Nonetheless, October marks the start of a really special time for me. It has always been special to me. From the weather changing to hot to cool and the sun setting sooner. From the cold air in the mornings to the chilling wind at night. Everything feels different.

Even Halloween, which used to be my favorite holiday, how could it not? Free unlimited candy, getting to dress up as something you’re not, and scary movies at midnight. But now, there’s something even more special about October, and it’s that it’s Brest Cancer Awareness Month.

Breast cancer awareness has been going on for many many years, but it never actually meant anything to me until about two years ago. I knew about it. I knew women were very prone to breast cancer, but I did not understand the actual damage breast cancer can do to a person and to the persons family. Yes, I knew it was bad, horrible even, I mean it’s a cancer, but I hadn’t seen it from the inside as I had when my mother was diagnosed with it.

I can’t speak for how she felt when she found out that she had breast cancer. I can only speak for myself. And this is actually really for anyone who has a family member out there going through the stages of this horrible disease.

I know how you feel, I was there. I cried so much. And it’s ok to cry, you’re human and you need to let it out. Trust me it’s so hard to try to keep it all together. That’s what I thought. I thought that by always showing a strong stern face at every moment, I would be stronger. But all that energy I used to do so I needed it be there for my mother.

Another thing that I discovered is that it’s okay to tell people. Don’t keep it to yourself. Sure, some people will pity you and some people will praise you for being so brave. Stick to those people and let the other people go. You need all the help you can get, all the support, and love that friends will bring you. Because your time soon will be given to your loved one, and that’s all you’ll want to do.

And now, with all the hospital visits, the surgeries, and the recovery that I have seen my mother go through it has made me apr├ęciate her so much more and realize what a strong woman she is. A powerful, courage, strong woman.

So if you have some one out there going through this, be there for them, cry with them, and don’t take them for granted, don’t let them give up the fight. If you’re the one going through this, let me tell you I’m sorry, but you are strong, and you will fight this. You will be victorious.

Busy New Things

I finally took it upon myself to start my writing blog. It’s amazing how long I have procrastinated on actually writing anything in that blog. I created that blog maybe more than a year ago, and the other day I barely wrote my first post. It was more of an introduction post, but nonetheless it was a post and a first step is a first step no matter how big or small it is.

I am excited to write. Of course, I’m not a college grad or in college to say the least, but I do have a dream. So for the moment I want to practice with my imagination, which is mainly why I created the writing blog. To practice. Since my writing skills aren’t not at its best don’t expect anything that is mind blowing, or do? Who knows, maybe I’ll write something that is actually semi good. In the mean time, I’ll be here, writing.

Tomorrow is my first day back to work form my almost four week family leave. I know I will be asked so many questions regarding my absence. I’ll also have to be updated on any new things that may have changed while I was gone. It will be hectic, maybe even a little stressful, but I know I will be able to hang in there.

The thing is getting back to a normal routine. Getting back to the rhythm of things is always hard. I know this for a fact. I’ve been eating without limits, going to bed at random hours, and relaxing at home with no worries. But all this will change now that I am forced to be somewhere for eight hours a day five days a week.

Also happening tomorrow, my mom will be seeing her doctor to check up on her post surgery. She’s doing so much better and manages to get around. I’m so glad I was here to help her through everything and more than happy she is doing better and content with how the surgery went.

There’s no doubt that the end of this October will be full of new surprises and busy and new things .

Working At Home

Today was the day I was scheduled to go back to work. I had taken off work since September twenty first to take care of my mother who went through reconstruction surgery that same day. I was going to be out two weeks and a half. But seeing as she may need more assistance I asked to return to work a little later, this Monday to be exact.

Some of my coworkers who have my number have been messaging me asking me if I’m ok or if I’ll be returning. I’ve texted them back letting them know I will go back soon. I didn’t want to tell anyone that I was taking a leave of absence because, well as blunt as it sounds, it’s none of their business.

I know that sounds harsh and mean, but I don’t really have a connection to them. Sure they are my coworkers but the bond or relationship I have with them is just merely related to work. There was only about two of them that I actually did tell what was going on. I’m sure I’m the talk of the town, probably asking themselves where I am or if I’m returning, or even what happened to me in the first place. Some might even think I quit. Surprise they will get when they see me walk in Monday.

I do have to say that even though I’ve been up and down with hospital visits, cleaning and cooking, and taking care of my mother, I have enjoyed this time off. Working at home is far different from working at a job. The thought of returning does not amuse me at all.

As a matter of fact, today while buying groceries, I saw a coworker. I asked her how she was and how things at work were going. By the looks of it, they’re not going so well. Things have changed and by the expression on her face and her tone of voice, they haven’t changed for the better.

Just to confirm my doubts I messaged a close coworker and she said that everything I heard was correct, and maybe even worse. If I didn’t want to go back then, imagine how I feel now? It seems like the big boss wants numbers, and he’s going to get them at who’s ever expense.

The Truth

Have you ever wondered what it would have been like to be Hannah Montana? Or someone who you knew lived a double life? Let me tell you it’s not easy. It’s hard, tiring, and very stressful. Sure, the rush of being two different people can be very exciting. The thought of getting caught or living on a high wire makes your heart beat faster than anything else. You feel like a special agent. Like a spy even. But at what cost?

The moment I stopped living a double life it felt like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders. I was a good Christian at home and to some friends at church, but to the rest of the world I was a very sexual loud mouth party animal.

I found myself going to clubs every week on Friday’s and Saturday’s and then on Sunday waking up to go door to door to preach about Gods Kingdom.

I know, very ironic. But I found myself thinking of everything I was doing. The huge hypocrite I was becoming . It was a huge eye opener. How could I be doing all the things I was on the next day telling people they shouldn’t be doing? Hiding everything from one part of my life from people I really cared about. I was stressed, I was tired, and to a certain extent it wasn’t even fun anymore.

I had to choose a life. I had to choose what part I wanted to live and what part of me I had to let go. It wasn’t easy. But I chose one, and I don’t regret it. Not once have I thought of what I would have been if I would have chosen the other part of my life to follow.

I’m glad I’m finally living The Truth.

Get Money

I have fallen off the wagon regarding food as I said in my last post. But I have also lost track of sleep. I haven’t been going to work for a week so naturally someone would say that I would be sleeping in. But I haven’t been. I go to sleep late and wake up early to go pick up my brother since he works graveyard.

He works for a very famous company that is in the news recently for raising their minimum wage to fifteen dollars. He was very excited to hear that. I was actually very excited to hear that as well. He works really hard and they push them hard too. They set goals for them and they have to meet them or even go above and beyond them. Which he does.

But, back to my headache. Oh wait I didn’t mention that, well I’ve had a headache all day today. I know it’s the lack of sleep and not eating right is a big contributor to that as well. I’ve taken many pain pills throughout the day but nothing has happened, I know what I really need is to sleep.

I was also thinking about work. I go back in exactly in a week. How is it possibly that even now, a week away, I still can’t find myself ready to go back? I like being home. I like being with my family. Yesterday I even went to a friends house randomly just to hang out.

Talking to another friend we were thinking of ways we could make money without working and we came up with nothing, because technically that would be impossible. To make money you have to work, and to make a lot of money you have to work harder. But how can you make money and then grow money? Because obviously just working at a regular job always making the same amount of money isn’t going to get you anywhere.

Am I being too greedy? Seems like this has been a recurring theme in my blog. Get money. But don’t we all want what we don’t have?
